After swimming for approximately 53 hours, she approached the shoreline in the Key West around 2 p.m local time. Crowds of fans greeted, cheered and welcomed her to shore.
This was Nyad's fifth try to complete the 110-mile swim. She made previous failed attempts in 1978, 2011 and 2012. Her last attempt was cut short due to unfavorable currents and poisonous jellyfish stings that left her face swollen.
