Diamond Rio to release first gospel album 'The Reason' in September

After performing award-winning country music since 1984, Diamond Rio is unveiling the group's 11th album and first full length gospel record The Reason on Word Records on September 22, 2009.

Making the transition from mainstream county music to a Christian record deal was a natural progression for the band already known for such positive hits as “I Believe,” “Mama Don’t Forget to Pray for Me” and “One More Day.” Over the years, each member of Diamond Rio has heard God’s calling through a variety of experiences. The songs on The Reason reflect those faith experiences. For example, member Dana Williams wrote the poignant “What Are We Going to Do Now” following his pastor’s death. The song “Moments of Heaven” presents the idea of family, friendships and special moments in this life granting us moments of “Heaven on earth.” The Reason’s first single “God Is There,” an anthem of hope in hard times, will release to radio on July 31.

Diamond Rio, comprised of lead singer Marty Roe, guitarist Jimmy Olander, drummer Brian Prout, keyboardist Dan Truman, bassist/harmony Dana Williams and Gene Johnson on mandolin/harmony teamed up with some of gospel music’s best songwriters for The Reason including Matthew West (Rascal Flatts, Point of Grace), Bernie Herms (Casting Crowns) and Chris Eaton (Vince Gill, Margaret Becker).

Commenting on the new gospel album, Diamond Rio's Jimmy Olander states: “We’re revealing who we are. We’re not preaching. We’re not preachers, but we’re saying, ‘This is who I am and I’m proud of it.”

Diamond Rio's autobiography Beautiful Mess from Thomas Nelson will coincide with the album release of The Reason. The band’s first book chronicles both their personal and professional legacy.

Diamond Rio has sold over 10 million albums earning three platinum and five gold records and won the Country Music Association’s Vocal Group of the Year award four times as well as netting two Academy of Country Music Awards in the top Vocal Group of the Year category and thirteen GRAMMY ® nominations.
