Michigan is one of twelve states included in a recall of Diamond Puppy Formula Dry Dog Food announced today by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, FDA, due to possible Salmonella contamination.

In addition to Michigan, the recalled product was also distributed in the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, particularly if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to the product.

No dog illnesses have been reported, however, signs of illness in dogs may include diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, lethargy, fever, and vomiting.
