My husband Len is insulin dependent diabetic. He buys no sugar added apple pies from Walmart, and sometimes I bake him a sugar free cake. However, today he fancied a special cake. We checked out Publix, and they had no sugar added cakes.
The one he chose is a chocolate frosted cake, which is between 6 and 7 inches across and 3 and a half inches in depth. The net weight is 34.5 ounce (2 lb 2.5 ounce). They also had yellow, and white frosted no sugar added cakes.
The price is a little on the high side, at $8.99, but it is really hard to find a birthday style cake, for diabetics.
Len cut a thin slice of the cake, and ate it. It has 2 layers of chocolate cake, with a layer of chocolate frosting in the middle. The top is decked with chocolate piping, and sprinkles.
We worked out that Len can cut it into 16 thin slices, which makes this an inexpensive cake. On the nutrition facts it states that 1/12 cake is 290 calories, and the fat calories are 140.
This is not a low calorie cake, or for anyone that is dieting. This is for people with diabetes. If you do purchase this, please remember to eat in moderation, as it will put your sugar readings up.
Len will be happy to have a slice a week, and control his sugar readings. After all it is better to have a small amount, then do without.
