This year, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is entering its fifth year of the Inside|Out Program. In the past four years, over seven hundred reproductions have been set up in nearly one hundred cities. This years exciting late summer/early fall installment will be showcased in nine spots around the Metro Detroit area. In each listed city or neighborhood, over 80 masterpieces will be placed within walking or biking distance from one another. The locations are: Brownstown, Downtown Detroit, Detroit Riverfront, Dearborn, Mt. Clemens, Oak Park, Royal Oak, Saint Clair Shores, and Wixom.
In one city, Saint Clair Shores, reproductions of well known works by artists including Monet, Cassatt and van Gogh will be scattered around town. Places like city parks, medical centers, banks, and favorite local stores will don the artwork on their exteriors so everybody can enjoy them.
This exhibit is free for all, and will be posted and available for enjoyment until fall (October 31st). Be sure to visit the local stops, or make a day of it and visit multiple cities' posted art. Spread the word of this fun event to your friends! The idea of Inside|Out is to bring culture via brilliant artwork to people who don't often visit museums, it is a great opportunity for those people who would not normally visit the Detroit Institute of Arts to be exposed to the gems within.
Visit the DIA event page for more information and the Inside|Out Facebook Page for updates on this program. Do not forget to see the reproductions, and go to the DIA, it is one of the best art museums in the world, no kidding!
