Okay, we’ll admit it: after Frampton’s original song “Inventing Shadows” shot up to number one on iTunes (with Javier Colon’s “Stitch by Stitch” sneaking up to number two just before the voting closed), we thought The Voice outcome was a lock for her. Many of you probably did, too. But then again, most people who pay to download a song will only do so once, and voting online or via the 855 number could be done up to ten times each. So things are rarely so neatly tied up in life, right?
So though Frampton didn't end up taking the title, she came thisclose, literally less than 2% away from stripping Javier Colon of the prize and coach Adam Levine of the bragging rights. Host Carson Daly may have said that after the verdict was read on national, live television one artist's life would be changed forever, but we would argue that really, Frampton's life is about to change, too. After all, she was once a much more niche artist and now she has a hit single on iTunes. That's pretty cool, right?
Frampton told LA TV Insider Examiner just last week that she didn’t think her previous success touring with her sister weighed too heavily on how deeply fans were rallying around her now; we might beg to differ. After all, when she first auditioned we recognized her voice. Sure, we had to look up how we knew her, but still, the little seed was already planted, the memories already recalled. And familiarity has to count for something!
“We do have a lot of awesome fans for Meg & Dia but I feel like it’s a lot smaller than people think,” Frampton told us. “I mean, our big break was getting our song played after The Hills, which I never watched. And that was our big moment.”
(More from that interview can be found here.)
Well, not anymore! Having a number one single is a far cry from doing the math to see if you can afford the gas it will cost to your next gig! Frampton said Meg has been extremely supportive of her sister's venture into the solo realm, but they still plan to write more together. And of course having a new friend in Miranda Lambert doesn't hurt either!
"She gave Xenia and I journals, and she wrote a handwritten note in my journal. She said 'I've wrote so many songs in a journal like this; I hope it brings you inspiration. I hope you write tons of hits in this journal!'" Frampton said, noting that Lambert also bought her the dress she wore on the final show.
"She's so cool! I was like, 'I'm going to totally stalk you, Miranda! I want to be your friend!'"
Lambert isn't scared, though! As someone who survived a reality singing competition herself, she told Frampton never to be afraid to pick up the phone if she needs help along the way.
"She said, 'We have your back; we'll be around; we don't want you to be like, 'The show's over; what do I do now?'" Frampton shared.
And now Frampton certainly has something else to celebrate as runner-up on the first stellar season of The Voice. If and when she continues to tour with her sister, she will undoubtedly play larger crowds, and this time, if she forgets the words to a song, it won’t just be up to her co-singer to pick up the slack; the audience will surely sing along with her.
The Voice may have completed its first season, but season two auditions are right around the corner so stay tuned right here for continued show coverage!
