DIA breaks all-time passenger record, expand carriers and airport services

Denver International Airport saw more than 53 million travelers in 2012, breaking the 2011 record and remaining the fifth busiest airport in the US.

“It’s extremely rewarding to finish 2012 with record-breaking numbers,” said aviation manager Kim Day in a statement released Thursday, “We have continued to serve the growing demand for both international and domestic travel introducing new carriers such as Icelandair, Spirit Airlines and Volaris in 2012. I am looking forward to United’s service to Narita, Japan in 2013, which will bring business and leisure opportunities to and from Denver.”

The FasTracks rail line along the Peña Boulevard corridor is underway and will offer speedy travel both to and from the airport once finished in 2016.

The redevelopment of the South Terminal will include 500-room Westin hotel and regional transportation hub. The redevelopment is slated for completion in 2015, just before the completion of the railway.
