Di Vita Imports portfolio presentation (Photos)

On July 30, 2012 Di Vita Imports shared its impressive Italian wine portfolio with wine lovers at Guerrero Art Gallery in San Francisco. Di Vita Imports is a new venture of partners Johana Bohorquez and Max Geittmann. The San Francisco based importer specialized in boutique, organic and biodynamic wines from Italy and Spain.

The tasting at Guerrero Art Gallery showcased Di Vita's Italian wine portfolio from various wine regions including Veneto, Marche, San Gimigiano, Chianti, Sicily, Verona, Tuscany, Sardegna, Basilicata and Piedmont. A great atmosphere of art and live classical music along a superb selection of cheeses, charcuterie and breads made for an intimate wine tasting experience.

Johana and Max offered a beautiful selection of about fifty wines to taste, very easy to appreciate the great aromas and flavors of their Italian portfolio. Great example of sustainable, biodynamic and organic wines. With their first shipment of wine arriving from Italy by mid September it was the perfect opportunity to enjoy their well thought allocation and get on board to order some wines.

From Conegliano Valdobbiane-Veneto, "Il Colle" offered DOCG Prosecco of exceptional quality. A beautiful symphony of floral, green apple, pear and mineral aromas and flavors where present in all three offerings made with 100% Glera grape variety,

  • 2011 Millesimo Brut DOCG "Il Colle": (100% Glera) Very refreshing sparkling with delicate white floral aromas along fresh green apple, asian pear and Meyer lemon aromas and flavors finishing with mineral notes. Great sparkling wine to enjoy by itself or paired with light appetizers, prawns and shellfish.

From Montevarchi-Chianti, "Fattoria Caspri" contributed well crafted biodynamic red wines. Delicious wines made with indigenous varieties, such as Sangiovese, Catarratto and the Canaiolo Cillegiolo. The estate practices organic viticulture, they show respect for the environment by applying the principles of biodynamics. The vines and the soil are treated with herbal teas and brews of vegetable matter to encourage the development of good vegetative growth, while discouraging parasites.

  • 2010 Cillegiolo IGT "Fattoria Caspri": (100% Canaiolo Cillegiollo) Well crafted wine that shows a great balance of fruit, acid and tannins. Enticing aromas of red cherry, cranberry, baking spices and earth. On the palate you can enjoy the same as the aromas adding more ripe fruit flavors like plum and red currants and nice mineral notes. This wine is easy to drink alone but will pair well with pasta/red sauce, charcuterie, aged cheeses, game and pork dishes.

From Vulture-Basilicata, Winemaker Elena Fucci is producing just one wine from her family’s 15 acres vineyard on Monte Vulture, the 100% Aglianico is made with grapes that grow in the Titolo lava channel of Monte Vulture in northern Basilicata, the soil is a volcanic lava mix known locally as "pozzolana". The viticulture is organic and taking care of the grapes is a labor of love. The fruit is picked by hand and crushed in small batches then fermented in stainless steel, malolactic fermentation takes place in new French barrique and the wine is aged for twelve more months.

  • 2009 Aglianico del Vulture DOC "Titolo" from Elena Fucci: (100% Aglianico) This extraordinary full body wine jumps out of your glass with aromas of dark plum, dark cherries, cranberry, dried lavender and smoked bacon with notes of cigar smoke and tar. On the palate this wine feels very balanced between fruit and acid and offer robust tannins and flavors of dark chocolate, coffee bean, Marion berry compote, licorice and mineral soil; continuing to a long enjoyable finish. This elegant red wine is showing graceful today but it will continue to develop beautiful nuances for a couple of decades to come. This wine will pair well with heavier dishes like a roasted rack of lamb, smoked meats, grilled vegetables and aged hard cheeses

Di Vita Imports showcased an amazing selection of well crafted wines that expressed the soil and environment were the grapes are grown, a beautiful prelude of more wine gems to come.
