DHS set to place new restrictions on immigration law enforcement

In 2007 Sheriff Joe Arpio, along with other law enforcement agencies across the country, entered into an arrangement with the Federal Government that gave them the authority to enforce immigration laws. This agreement is known as the 287(g) agreements. Under 287(g), a significant number of illegal immigrants have been arrested and deported. On Friday Department of Homeland Security secretary, Janet Napolitano, said these agreements will be torn up.

According to an article in theEast Valley Tribune, the new agreement will cite DHS priorities, one of which will be to go after “criminal aliens”- illegal immigrants that have committed state crimes. This is to address concerns that police were using minor infractions to deport illegal aliens. DHS has yet to find such evidence, but it has received complaints. A spokesperson for DHS said local agencies have ninety days to sign the new agreement or they will lose their authority.

It may come as a surprise to MS. Napolitano and DHS, but entering the U.S. illegally is a crime; One that demands enforcement. Due to the lax execution of our immigration policies in the past, the entire system is in chaos. Now, with even more restrictions on law enforcement, we can rightly assume that further chaos will ensue.

It would appear Napolitano has forgotten that her first duty lies in protecting the borders and the American people. Rather than make policies that tie the hands of law enforcement, she should be standing with them. Instead of enabling the illegal immigrant, she should be promoting and ensuring that immigration laws, already on the books, be followed and enforced. For far too long our immigration laws have been ignored, tweaked and molested, in order to fulfill some politician’s political agenda. It’s time to say enough and to remember that America is “a country of laws not men”- John Adams.

Napalitano follows the same incompetent paths of both Bush Sr and George, Clinton and now Obama in failing to enforce immigration laws that have been broken by 20 million? illegal aliens. They apparently don't realize they are responsible for protecting Americans from invasion, nor does Congress for lo these many years. I can't wait to vote out some jerks in 2010 and 2012.
