DHS is stirring the pot of the war of terror

US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a warning to airlines on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 that flights coming into the US might have bomb materials as part of passengers’ shoes.

As was the case with the Sochi advisory to watch out for explosives in tubes of toothpaste on flights going to Russia, the treat of bombing shoes was not related to a specific item of intelligence, has no identified source of the materials, and no identified airline or US city as an intended target.

There was one incident of Richard Reid of the UK trying to light off a shoe in an airplane on December 22, 2001. Nobody has been found to be carrying explosive toothpaste yet. Do these random terrorist threat alarms from DHS sound like a paranoid crack head waiting for a home invasion by a SWAT team or what?

Homeland security is now a big business for both the US government and for private consulting firms. The USA PATRIOT ACT needs to be justified to be able to continue to ignore the Bill of Rights in areas such as illegal search and seizure, due process, and privacy of information. When these rights are threatened, all of our rights are threatened, including freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

An anonymous DHS spokesperson had this to say about the issuance of this latest threat alert.

It’s a reminder that we are under constant threat and an advisory to airlines to be on their A game.”

The official statement from DHS explains that this is just routine information passed along to maintain the awareness that there are bad people out there trying to hurt US citizens.

Out of abundance of caution, DHS regularly shares relevant information with domestic and international partners about relevant threat information as we work to meet our mission of keeping the traveling public (???). These types of regular communications are part of that important priority.”

The word after traveling public was missing from the statement. DHS probably meant to say “informed”, but the more accurate insertion may be “scared”, “afraid” or “terrorized”. DHS is not going to say that keeping the public terrorized is their mission.

Terrorists main mission is not to kill or maim; it is to make people afraid, and to destroy their trust that they are not threatened by random acts of violence. DHS is acting like a terrorist organization. DHS also said that airline passengers should expect more thorough inspection of shoes, additional pat-downs, and more full body screening.

For those that want to take a more personal role in preparing for the war on terror, FEMA offers this handy link called Ready to inform citizens about explosives and the dangers to expect from potential terrorists. Among the options available, there is a tab for Kids, with exciting cartoon characters that DHS intends to register and protect from use by others.

“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has adopted and is using in commerce the characters (specifically Ray, Gayle, Misti, Sonny, and Raina) associated with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Youth Preparedness Program. DHS is in the process of registering the characters with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Use of the characters, without permission, is unauthorized and in violation of trademark law.”

The spiritual damage that is being done under the “war on terror” is immense. People are advised in DHS and FEMA Ready web postings to inform officials of any suspicious activities of neighbors, coworkers, or strangers. The Ready site notes the terrorist activities of 911 and Oklahoma City as reasons to be vigilant. It fails to mention that the Oklahoma City bombing was a terrorist act by US citizens.

When this internal war on terror is extended to children, it is intolerable. This is institutionalized terrorist activities by multiple departments of the US government. The war on terror has become a war of terror by the US government against citizens of the US.

We have lost the most significant rights specifically defined in amendments to the Constitution of the US by passage of the USA PATRIOT ACT. There is an ongoing attempt to restrict public demonstrations against the government. It is time for us to wake up and restore government by the people for the people.

The continued attempts to cut Social Security, Medicare, and SNAP is due to the economic pressures created by massive expenditures for foreign wars of no real consequence to US security, and spending for defense that outstrips any other country in the world.

We are in a social and spiritual crisis because the government is conducting a war on terror against us. We need to wake up. We need to communicate our demands to our elected officials, and we need to vote them out of office when they display that they have sold out to lobbyists representing corporations instead of constituents.

Here are the direct e-mail links and phone numbers of those in Congress. Don’t let the war on terror succeed because we were too lazy to get involved in regaining our rights and freedoms lost when the US government launched its internal war of terror.

Senator Sherrod Brown office can be reached at (202) 224-2315.

Senator Rob Portman office can be reached at 202-224-3353.

Representative Steve Stivers office can be reached at (202) 225-2015

Representative Pat Tiberi office can be reached at (202) 225-5355

If you want to make a difference, you have to do something. Call or e-mail your representative to say that you want to see the war of terror stopped being engaged by US government agencies.
