Thursday, DHL set up a warehouse at the La Aurora airport in Guatemala City to organize donated goods for victims of the tropical storm and the volcanic eruption that has destroyed Guatemala City at the same time.
Tens of thousands of Guatemalan residents are homeless and the government has continually run out of supplies and food to help the victims, and thousands of people have been turned away without food, water or basic necessities.
Wednesday, Rainer Wend, an Executive Vice-President of Public Policy and Responsibility said: "It is important that the worst affected areas in Guatemala will receive essential goods such as water, food and aid material as quickly as possible. I am therefore glad that we have been asked by the Guatemalan government to bring in our logistics expertise at the main airport to help manage incoming goods and so make the relief efforts run as quickly as possible."
Tropical Storm Agatha brought severe flooding and landslides and washed away fields of maize, banana, sugar cane and coffee, leaving many residents without food. 24 bridges were also destroyed in and around Guatemala by the natural disasters, and this has made it difficult for aid to reach the city.
After Guatemala was hit with Tropical Storm Agatha, a volcanic eruption that layered Guatemala City in three inches of ash. Over 180 people have been reported dead from Tropical Storm Agatha in and around Guatemala.
Tuesday, the Venezuelan government sent 12 tons of food and basic necessities to Guatemala for victims of the recent disasters. For more on that story, click here.
