DG's Tap House in Ames will host a big blues double-feature on Saturday, March 23. The show will feature performances from Iowa-based blues bands The Candymakers and the Thunder Blues. Tickets for the 9 p.m. show are $5, and they may be purchased at the door or online through MidwesTix. This concert is a 21-and-over show.
Hailing from the Quad Cities, The Candymakers have become one of the Midwest's top up-and-coming blues, funk, and soul bands. In just three years since their formation, the band has won the Iowa Blues Challenge, reached the semi-finals of both the International Blues Challenge and The Kings of Beale Street Competition, and released their debut album. The sky is the limit for The Candymakers' next three years.
Formed at Des Moines' Gas Lamp in 2011, the Thunder Blues are led by veteran guitarist/vocalist Lightning Red. Lightning Red has toured all over, playing the Monterrey Bay Blues Festival and festivals throughout Europe. The band's leader also has released a number of albums through the years, and he brings a large repertoire of original songs to his current position fronting the Thunder Blues. The Thunder Blues are rapidly building a following across the state of Iowa.
