Dexter's season finale brought a shocking, bloody twist to the small screen, and high ratings to Showtime.
The season 4 finale of Dexter probably shocked even those who really thought they had it all figured out.
Fans had been tweetering and talking about the expected Dexter season finale. Many thought the serial killer portrayed by Michael C. Hall would definitely not get Trinity (John Lithgow) and was going to leave fans with an unbearable cliffhanger until the show returned for its fifhth season.
But Dexter had something different in mind.
Spoiler alert: fans cheered when the serial killer with a conscience finally got the Trinity killer and got rid of him using his own hammer. The shocking conclusion was what nobody expected.
But there were still 20 minutes to go on the anticipated season finale. There had to be something else in store...
Who could have expected Dexter's wife Rita (Julie Benz) ending dead in the bathtub and their son, Harrison, being left alone, sitting on her blood, just as Dexter was left when his mom was murdered in front of him?
Undoubtedly, the Dexter season finale was more that anybody could have hoped for.
And fans were not the only ones satisfied with the television event. According to THR's The Live Feed, 2.6 million viewers watched the Dexter season finale.
