Dexter names Witham softball coach and Salsbury track coach

DEXTER-- On Wednesday, Dexter high school named Patrice Witham varsity softball coach and Brian Salsbury varsity track coach.

Witham takes over a Tigers team that won the Eastern Maine class C championship in 2011 and reached the regional semifinals last season.

Witham is the third different softball coach for Dexter in the last three years.

Galen Chapman retired after the 2011 season. Chapman finished with a 110-47 record in nine seasons as head coach.

David Pepin coached the Tigers to a 12-6 record during the 2012 season. Pepin left for a varsity baseball coaching job at Mt. Blue.

Witham was Pepin's assistant last season and also served as junior varsity coach for the Tigers.

Dexter will have an experience group returning.that includes their pitcher, catcher and infield.

The scheduled date for pitchers and catchers reporting to practice is March 18th. Full team practices start March 25th.

The first scheduled game for the Tigers is April 15th when they host Central.

Tricia Fae Thompson will be the assistant varsity and head JV softball coach.

Salsbury takes over for Regan McPhetres as varsity track coach for the Tigers.

Salsbury has had success leading the Dexter wrestling program.

The first meet for the Tigers is scheduled for April 13th at Mount Desert Island high school.

Paul Shaw will be the assistant track coach.
