DEXTER- The Dexter Tigers boys basketball team has a strong nucleus returning from a team that won 13 games and reached the class C semifinals.
"We have a semi veteran team coming back. We have plenty of kids that have a lot of experience from last year,"Dexter coach Peter Murray said. "We have had some nice improvement from players that were secondary players last year, this year is going to be there time to step up and it appears they are ready to do that."
Trevor Fogarty and Ethyn Could were senior leaders for the Tigers football team this past fall. The duo will also be the leaders on the basketball court this winter.
"Trevor (Fogarty) doesn't have to score to impact the game. He does a lot of good things. He is a senior and has a lot of confidence. He is a good foul shooter, so when he gets to the line he is going to make it hurt,"Murray said. "Ethyn (Gould) had a great fall and got a lot of confidence. He had a great summer in basketball for us and gained a lot of confidence. He is a leader of the group, he plays a lot bigger than he is, expect a big year from him."
Junior Bailey Spack will be a key again this season for the Tigers. Spack is a scoring threat that is also able to play shut down defense.
Dustin Sirabella and Nate Robichaud will be seniors that will get key minutes for Murray and the Tigers. Juniors Matt Bartlett and Adam Wintle will also get significant minutes.
Adrian Bussell, Brody Campbell, Aaron Rivera, and freshman Zach White will also see playing time off the bench. Click here for the full roster.
Murray expects his team to be in a lot of close games. The three favorites in class C (Houlton, Lee Academy, and Washington Academy) are not on the Tigers regular season schedule.
"I think on our schedule, I see a lot of teams that are about the same,"Murray said. "I think, It will make for a lot of exciting basketball, a lot of close games. It will be a fun year."
Dexter was picked sixth in the Eastern Maine Sports Blog/Eastern Maine high school sports examiner's class C preseason predictions.
The Tigers will open the season with three road games. The home opener will be against Orono. Click here for the full schedule.
