Dexter and PCHS girls win big on Saturday night

BUCKSPORT-- Freshman Megan Peach and senior Abbie Melvin combined to record 29 points and pull down 17 rebounds in leading the Dexter Tigers girls basketball team to a 48-24 victory over Bucskport on Saturday evening.

The lady Tigers have now won five straight games.

Peach recorded 15 points and nine rebounds. This followed a 12 point/21 rebound effort in a 54-44 win over Stearns.

Melvin scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds (seven offensive). Michaela White added eight points, two assists, and one rebound.

Dexter shot 10-17 from the free throw line, Bucksport went 4-12. Dexter out rebounded Bucksport 37-22.

Freshman Breanna Coomb led Bucksport with eight points and four rebounds. Deb Wight added five points and three rebounds.

Dexter (7-2) will travel to Foxcroft Academy for a showdown with the Ponies on Tuesday evening.

Dexter is currently second in the class C heal point standings. Foxcroft is third in the class B standings.

Earlier in the day, Josh Gray scored 17 points to lead the Bucksport boys basketball team to a 52-46 victory over Dexter.

Riley MacLeod added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Bucks.

Bucksport (5-2) will travel to Deer Isle-Stonington on Monday.

Dexter (5-2) will host Penquis on Monday. The Patriots defeated Dexter 47-45 on December 11th.

In Guilford, Delani Bennett recorded 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Piscataquis community high school (PCHS) Pirates girls basketball team to a 60-28 victory over Bangor Christian.

Jordynne Littlefield added 14 points for the Pirates.

PCHS (6-3) will host PVHS on Tuesday.
