Looking for a night out full of kick ass music and ice cold adult beverages? Then I highly suggest you find a way to get yourself down to the Star Bar this Friday night. Taking the stage for a night of tunes will be the Dex Romweber Duo and Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band. Both acts take a simple approach to their music eliminating all the technical mumbo jumbo and letting their words and instruments do the talking.
The Dex Romweber Duo consists of one Dex Romweber and his sister Sara. While he dishes out nasty guitar licks she sets the pace with her chaotic drumming. It is amazing the big sound they create with just the two of them. Dex’s vocals range from a soulful croon to a gravelly wail as he sings about love, life’s experiences and colorful characters. They are out supporting their latest record Image 13 so look to hear a bunch of music from that offering as well as other classic tracks, with a musical history as rich as Dex’s there is a lot of music to choose from. Their live sets are loud and raucous loaded with juicy blues infused tunes that will rattle around in your brain for days after the show is over.
Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band delivers backwoods bluesy goodness loaded with the Rev’s chunky guitars and Weezy’s ear rattling washboard playing. Songs that traverse a wide soundscape they offer up tunes about religion, corporate greed and rural life. Like their personality the live shows are big and bold as the trio puts everything they have into their performances. With multiple albums under their belt look for a set list that will be crammed full of good music containing something for everyone.
This show could turn out to be one of the best live shows of the year. Both bands dish out music that is raw and loud and will rattle your bones. So get out of the house and plan on treating your ears to the down home goodness of the Dex Romweber Duo and Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band. If you see me around feel free to say hi.
