Devoted owner killed while trying to save life of her dog

A 41-year-old St. Louis, Mo., woman lost her life on Sunday in an early morning house fire.

According to Monday's KMOV News, the woman's name was Janet Salsman, and it appears that she died while attempting to rescue one of her dogs from the blaze.

Salsman had managed to get one of her two dogs outside to safety, but went back inside of the burning home to rescue the remaining dog who was still in danger.

Tragically, neither she, nor her beloved dog, made it out alive.

Responding firefighters found the devoted woman inside of the house with the dog who she was trying to save.

According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, family and friends of Salsman describe a selfless woman who had little, but gave a lot.

A friend told the St. Louis Post Dispatch:

“She was the most giving person,"

“If you didn’t have anything, she would help. That’s how we met.”

The cause of the deadly fire is still under investigation.
