Devo guitarist Bob Casale died on Monday. A tribute to the innovate member of the new wave band was posted on the Devo site on Feb. 18 by Gerald Casale, the founder of the group.

Gerald talked about Bob, saying he was "in the trenches with me from the beginning." This Casale family member called his sibling his "level-headed brother, a solid performer and talented audio engineer."

According to Yahoo! Music on Feb. 18, the cause of death for the musician, who was 61, was heart failure. Gerald Casale said this was a "sudden death" and "came as a total shock."

Although Devo came into being in 1972, it wasn't until around 1980 when the mainstream scene embraced this unusual group with their hip hit, "Whip It." A music video that owned comical, clever and revolutionary aspects followed, making this one of the first and most popular tiny movies to play on newly launched MTV.

The five original members of Devo hail from Ohio, and were known for their signature hats that resembled plant pots turned upside down. The guys were also know for their sarcasm and for their use of massive video screens during their early performances.

By way of background, Bob Casale is not the only member of Devo to pass way. The band's drummer, Alan Meyers, was 58 when he lost his battle with stomach cancer.

And now Bob is gone at 61. RIP Bob Casale, RIP.
