The Maids are back! The hit Lifetime drama “Devious Maids” is coming back with all new episodes beginning April 20th. Executive producers Marc Cherry and Sabrina Wind and the cast, Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Edy Ganem, Judy Reyes, Roselyn Sanchez and Susan Lucci, met with reporters at this year’s Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour to share some details about what’s in store for Season 2.
Executive producer Eva Longoria will direct the season opener, marking her directorial debut. The show goes into production next week in Atlanta. Despite Cherry and the network wanting the megastar to appear on the show, there are no immediate plans for the “Desperate Housewives” star to appear. Cherry said he wants Longoria’s appearance to be special, not stunt casting or a cameo. He has talked to Eva about it but it may not happen in this 13 episode second season.
What about Marisol (Ana Ortiz)? -- Now that Marisol’s secret is out, Cherry’s plans for season two have the professor turned “undercover maid” move to Beverly Hills, something he planned for the character from the beginning. “Marisol will marry a rich man and employ a “devious maid” herself…not a Latina. She’s moving on up and she’s got a lot of deviousness to deal with of her own,” he said.
Cast changes -- With a show centered on a murder mystery that has been resolved, cast changes were inevitable as Cherry reminded the room. As much as he loves working with everyone, like he did with “Desperate Housewives,” new characters will be coming on to the show. Some characters will exit after 1or 2 episodes that close out their story lines, although Cherry remained mum about who. Joining the cast this season are Dominic Adams, Joanna Adler and Colin Woodell.
What’s ahead -- Zoila’s need to control everything starts to take a toll on her personal life, especially with Valentina, who is now working for a surprising new employer. Rosie’s immigration status is in flux, while Carmen embraces her life in the limelight as the fiancée to a pop star. Beverly Hills is hit by a wave of criminal activity that leaves its residents in a vulnerable situation. Meanwhile, Marisol engages in a new romance but quickly discovers there is more than meets the eye to her new lover.
“Devious Maids” returns Sundays beginning April 20th on Lifetime.
