The New Jersey Devils took a 1-0 lead into the third period against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, but the Bruins scored a late third period goal to force overtime and a shootout, eventually scoring the deciding goal in the sixth round.

With the loss, the Devils dropped to 3-0-2 on the season, but remain unbeaten in regulation. David Clarkson scored his fourth of the season in the second period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead, but Nathan Horton tied the game in the third.

Johan Hedberg made his first start of the season in net for New Jersey and made 27 saves on 28 shots in the shootout loss.

Tyler Seguin, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Brad Marchand scored in the shootout that the Bruins won 2-1.

Devils forward Matt Anderson made his NHL debut after being recalled from Albany earlier in the day and played on the fourth line. Mattias Tedenby was returned to Albany after a sub-par performance in the opening games.

Cam Janssen, Peter Harrold, and Adam Larsson were healthy scratches for New Jersey. Adam Henrique remains day-to-day with an injury and could return as early as the next game. Devils rookie Stefan Matteau will remain with the team for now and will not be returned to his junior team.

The Devils look to rebound after two straight losses (overtime and shootout) when they return to the Prudential Center to face the New York Islanders on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Islanders are 3-2-1 to start the season.
