Steve Bernier and Johan Hedberg got things done for the Devils on Long Island yesterday at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The game was tied deep into the third period until Bernier broke through for the first of two goals on the day. Meanwhile, Devils goalie Johan Hedberg stopped 22 of 22 shots for the shutout.
The Devils and Islanders came into Sunday afternoon’s matchup tied for second place behind the Penguins. With the win the devils move up to within 1 point of the Penguins.
The Devils will be at home for three straight games when they take on the New York Rangers Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday and then the Penguins again Saturday. The Islanders and Devils will meet again twice more.
