According to Wednesday's NBC New York, there will be no happily ever after for the senior Newfoundland who saved his family from a devastating fire in Westchester County, N.Y.

On Wednesday, the remains of the 10-year-old dog, named "Nero," were found in the rubble of the burned out home in Yorktown Heights, bringing the total number of dogs lost in the blaze to four.

Nero's body was not initially found in the burned out residence, leading his family to hope that he had escaped and ran; since his disappearance, many people in the community were searching for the presumably lost dog.

Nero's actions on the day of the fire enabled his family to escape and survive; the family considers him to be a hero.

Giulio Elieso, Nero's guardian, told NBC New York:

You have no idea, I feel like I lost a son,

Without him, I would have lost my wife and my daughter in the fire.
