Jim Furyk shares 2nd-round Deutsche Bank Championship lead with Sean O'Hair (Photo: E. Kay)
Norton, MA -- After struggling with his tee shots, irons, and putting Friday and much of Saturday, Tiger Woods made a late charge during the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston.
The problem for Woods is that he remains seven strokes back of the leaders, Jim Furyk and Sean O’Hair, each of whom shot lights out and sit atop the scoreboard at 12-under par.
Woods carded an even-par front nine, but his game came together down the stretch with four birdies for an incoming 31. The world’s number one golfer has 36 holes in which to catch Furyk and O’Hair, who played almost flawlessly Saturday. O’Hair posted a 7-under 64, while Furyk’s 4-under knotted him with his second-round playing partner.
Albatross for Senden. Retief Goosen, grouped with the leaders, shot a 4-under 67 to share second place at 10-under for the tourney with Marc Leishman, who posted a day-low round of 9-under 62. The shot of the day, however, went to John Senden, who knocked in a rare double eagle on the par-5 second hole and finished the day at 9-under for the championship.
“I wasn't expecting anything like that today, but on that particular hole I hit a driver and a 4-iron, landed about maybe ten yards on the green and rolled right in,” Senden said afterward. “I didn't see it go in, but it looked like it was just going to roll to the back of the green or just over the back, and then when I saw the cheers go up I knew it was in the hole, so it was exciting.
