Detroit’s Transit Union and, the public, protest over proposed cuts in bus services in the city. They chanted, "Dave Bing must go!"
The proposal on the table is to stop DOT bus services at 6 p.m. on Saturdays and eliminate service on Sunday. Detroit has a $300 million dollar budget deficit that requires curtailing city spending.
The protest featured here took place on August 25, 2009 before a public hearing at the Rosa Parks Transit Center in Downtown Detroit. As a result of this public demonstration, and others like it, the proposed layoffs of approximately 113 bus drivers was postponed while alternative options were sought by the city.
