The Tigers played at Tiger Stadium from 1912-1999. As a result, only seven Tigers have ever led the league in ERA and two of them did not play at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. Earned run average, or ERA, calculates the mean number of earned runs a pitcher allows per nine innings pitched. The following are the seven men that led the American League in ERA from 1901-2011. Hal Newhouser in 1945 and Justin Verlander in 2011 each won the Triple Crown.
1902 Ed Siever 1.91
1944 Dizzy Trout 2.12
1945 Hal Newhouser 1.81
1946 Hal Newhouser 1.94
1962 Hank Aguirre 2.21
1976 Mark Fidrych 2.34
2011 Justin Verlander 2.40
