Police are continuing their sweep of Detroit's streets of drugs, and recently added to their efforts with the seizure of 10,000 grams of cocaine, 6,000 grams of marijuana, and 300 grams of methamphetamine, along with $53,000 is cash reported myFoxdetroit.com February 12, 2010.

In addition to the cash, weapons were seized as well. The estimated worth of the haul is reported to be 4 million dollars.

Since becoming Detroit's police chief, Warren Evans has stepped up raids on drug dealers, and is also going after marijuana dealers.

Recently, Detroit police confiscated about 1,300 pounds of marijuana worth about 5 millions dollars.

With the exception of the marijuana busts, Chief Evans is properly focused in cleaning Detroit's streets of harder drugs which inevitably deteriorates neighborhoods where it is sold, and jeopardizes the residents living in the area.

Marijuana is another story, and one that probably doesn't deserve police attention at this point when there are much more important problems in Detroit, and Michigan at the moment.

It is the harder drugs that cause crime. You would be hard pressed to find a smoker of marijuana to be sticking up 7-11 stores for a dime bag of weed. At most, a lone Snicker's bar might be subject to disappear if lying around the house if a marijuana smoker was present.

Do you think Chief Evans, or any other law enforcement agency should be concerned with marijuana at this time, considering the problems we face with serious crimes occurring, and the prevalence of harder drugs that reek havoc?

I have no problem with going after hard drugs. But this push to go after cannabis is insane. Everywhere I go I find about +80 percent for medical cannabis and about 50-50 for complete legalization for cannabis. So why all of the police action against cannabis if it's that close? You would think that if people were allowed to use cannabis some of the hard stuff might drop down to levels easier to control.

Funny, trying to control a controlled substance. That says a lot about the prohibitionists.

Good point. I'm coming to the conclusion that cannabis prohibition is about money. Follow the money. Police et al. claim they are in it to Save The Children - and maybe some really are. But locking up Nanna and Grandpop for pot plants is beyond insane, if you take prohibitionists at their word. They rake it in with fines, court-forced "treatment", court costs, make-it-up-out-of-thin-air "costs" -- you name it. Marijuana prohibition is the great moneymaker for the police state at all levels. Marijuana prohibition is the lynch-pin of the drug war. (Prohibitionists are loathe to admit pot smokers are even jailed - watch.) Take from prohibitionists the ability to jail people for pot, and the rest of the drug war doesn't amount to much.
