The Pistons have been looking to add one more player to their roster, and to be more specific a big man, for a little while, and they have finally settled on somebody. That somebody is Josh Harrellson.
Harrellson is known to most as "Jorts," which is a terrible portmanteau of "jeans" and "shorts." This is the most notable thing about him, which says all we probably need to know about this signing. Harrellson is filling out the roster, but to be fair there are worse ways to fill out a roster. He actually got a little playing time with the New York Knicks in the 2011-2012 season, even playing a few games in the playoffs. However, last year he played in a mere nine games with the Miami Heat, which was, admittedly, a team with a pretty limited rotation. The deal is for the league minimum and the Pistons have the option on a second year if they are particularly enthused with Harrellson. Somehow I think that doesn't happen.
This news is worth mentioning as much for who they didn't sign instead of Harrellson. This put the end to the rumors that the Pistons may just sign Jason Collins. Both are centers, but Harrellson is younger and has more upside. Collins is known primarily, of course, for being a nice matchup for Dwight Howard. I'm joking. He also has a twin.
The Pistons don't need Collins. Andre Drummond can unite all the people of the world through his magic alone.
