Detroit neighbor shoots five pound chihuahua in self defense

One-year-old Jojo, the chihuahua, lost his life on Wednesday after a neighbor shot the dog in self defense in a Detroit neighborhood. Of course, for most of us it is hard to imagine a five-pound dog scaring anyone, but authorities stated the neighbor acted within reason and no charges were filed.

According to CBSlocal.com Detroit, the dog's young teenage owner had opened the door for her dog to go outside. The neighbor told her to bring the dog back indoors, but when she didn't, he grabbed his pistol and shot the dog.

David Rudolph of Detroit Dog Rescue, who arrived at the home to help dispose of the dog's body stated:

“This would have never happened if the dog had been properly leashed and under the direct supervision of the owner… In no way should you ever have your dog out and not leashed.”

This was a sad story with an even more tragic ending, and a very heart wrenching way to learn a lesson for a 14-year-old young girl. We are the protectors of our four legged friends, and with that huge task comes responsible breeding, care, and training.
