Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford must outduel Dallas quarterback Tony Romo if the Lions want to win their fifth game of the season and stay in the race for an NFC playoff spot.
This article is our traditional preview of the upcoming Lions game with predictions of who to start, who to sit and who will surprise and delight you in week #8 of fantasy football.
Our sister article - Week 8 Fantasy Football Showdown in Motown features two top quarterbacks - focuses on the two quarterbacks and other key personnel in this game between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
Both teams need to win to remain in the NFC playoff chase. Dallas is 4-3 and one game ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East. Detroit is 4-3 and one-half game behind the 4-2 Green Bay Packers in the NFC North.
"Hometown Hero" - The Lions lost to Cincinnati in week #7, but quarterback Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes and scored 32 fantasy points. Stafford needs to score over 30 points for the third week in a row if the Lions hope to beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
"Surprise and Delight" - Wide receiver Calvin Johnson (aka "Megatron") surprised and delighted Lions fans last weekend. He caught tow touchdown catches and had nine receptions for 155 yards receiving. Megatron finished with 31.5 points and could duplicate that feat against the Cowboys secondary,
"Hometown Zero" - Wide receiver Ryan Broyles seems to be in the Lions' dog house. He caught only two passes for 16 yards against the Bengals.
"And one more thing . . ." - This article's video is a debate between Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless on ESPN's "1st Take" show. They are debating Dez Bryant's recent comments about him being as good a wide receiver as Calvin Johnson.
Summary - The Michigan Gnome and I blew it. We picked Detroit to beat Cincinnati in week 7 and the Bengals won with a late field goal. The loss pushed our records to an identical 3-4.
We don't believe the Lions will lose two consecutive home games. The Gnome says it will be Detroit 24, Dallas 21. I am picking the Lions, 28-24, over the Dallas Cowboys.
"I wish I had him this week" - For Detroit fantasy owners with stars from other teams, here are three players that should have a better than average game in week #8:
- Quarterback Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos
- Running back Jamaal Charles, Minnesota Vikings
- Wide receiver Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
"Expect a Downturn" - Here are three players whose performances will be on fantasy football's downside in week 8:
- Quarterback Chad Henne, Jacksonville Jaguars
- Running back Daniel Thomas, Miami Dolphins
- Wide receiver David Nelson, New York Jets
