A tasty healthy trend for a detox cleanse is the Raw Foods Diet
This is basically an uncooked vegan diet and a healthier plan for any one giving up meat for Lent. A vegan diet includes fruits, vegetables, seaweed (delicious!), nuts, seeds, grains and excludes meat, dairy products and eggs. The rule of thumb is to “eat a rainbow”. The more colorful the food is on your plate, the healthier the meal. Fruits and vegetables contain essential minerals and nutrients like Vitamins A and C, potassium, magnesium, fiber and are low in sodium. It’s always better to follow a healthy diet program than to haphazardly eliminate any nutritious items from your diet. Try to eat the 7 colors of the rainbow and 7 colors of fruits or vegetables on your plate at each meal; (red, dark green, yellow, blue, purple, white and orange). Don’t be dismayed by this amount. A banana, apple and orange together equal approximately 3 ounces. Find a Raw Food detox cleanse diet plan that you can customize to your health goals in “Raw Food Cleanse: Restore Health and Lose Weight by Eating Delicious, All-Natural Foods - Instead of Starving Yourself” by Penni Shelton Reviews: Readers gave 4.5 out of 5 stars. You might even lose a few pounds while you’re at it too.
Remember to do your best to consume four or five cups of fruits and vegetables each day. Based on age and daily activity level men should eat 2 cups of fruit and 3 cups of veggies if they are fairly active and for women 2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables. Or up to 13 half cup (6 1/2 cups) servings a day according to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines. Don’t let this amount overwhelm you. 6 1/2 cups is approximately a half plate of fruits and vegetables at each meal based on a 2,000 calorie diet. Do your best to add them day by day then meal by meal. You can find a very useful chart at “Toolbox for Community Educators”.
Vitamins and Juicing
To remain in good health during a fast, add a vitamin supplement to your diet. Since your embarking on this period of a healthier body and soul, juicing is another way to add variety to your fast. It’s a good source of Raw Food, an excellent way to meet the recommended daily allowances for fruits and vegetables and can boost your energy too.
