Detention hearing Monday for teen charged with attempted murder

A detention hearing will be held Monday after a Saturday night shooting led to a 16-year-old being injured and a 15-year-old in custody for attempted murder.

Jackson police arrested a 15-year-old male Saturday night after he shot a 16-year-old male once in the abdomen and shot at a 20-year-old man, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.

Investigators have charged the teen with two counts of attempted murder. He is being held at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center pending a detention hearing Monday in Juvenile Court.

The release said at 9:36 p.m. Saturday, police were called to a shooting at Wedgewood Apartments, located at 961 Old Hickory Blvd. A 16-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to the side. He was transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where he was admitted. He is currently in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Witnesses identified the 15-year-old male as the shooter. Officers took him into custody, about 30 minutes after the shooting, at his home on Tracewood Cove.

The release said investigators learned that the shooting stemmed from a fight earlier in the evening. Afterward, the 15-year-old left and returned with a gun. He then began shooting.
