Sony, finally, officially unveiled some information for MLB 14: The Show on Thursday. The current generation versions (PS3, Vita) will release on April 1, and the next generation PS4 version is due sometime in May. Across all platforms, the game will offer 50 new features to keep the game fresh. Sony released a screen showcasing the graphical difference between the PS3 and PS4, and this can be seen on this page along with some other screens.
Quick batter and pitching counts and a new user interface (built from the ground up for PS4, but optimized for the current generation) are two of the more important features to help deepen the experience of The Show. A more noteworthy addition will be year-to-year saves, starting from this version. This will allow extensions of your seasons from here on out, if players choose not to play with new rosters. On top of this, cross-platform saves return so players can get a jump on their season in April, and move over to next-gen in May.
An improved Road to the Show and community challenges will add more depth to the series. Online Franchise introduces multi-season play with Scouting, the Amateur Draft, Free Agency, and CPU Trades. Lastly, a smarter Universal Profile will now track player tendencies. The profile can be trained, and then subbed in to the Diamond Dynasty games.
Sony expects top-notch visuals on the PS4 version due in May. They state that these improvements above are far from what is available in the final version. Check out the trailer on this page, and check back periodically for updates on MLB 14: The Show.
