When word first came out that arch terrorist Osama bin Laden’s body had been dumped at sea, there seemed to be a cohesive logic to the action. Bury the cretin, and his grave becomes a shrine for future generations of would-be mass murderers. Dispose of him in the briny, and you eliminate that problem.
However, as Weasel Zippers is reporting, the matter of disposing of the terrorist’s remains was not quite so cut and dried:
Osama bin Laden’s corpse was taken to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, officials tell ABC News.
The process of his burial at sea was done in accordance with Muslim law—a Muslim seaman conducted the process and said the proper prayers, with bin Laden’s body wrapped in the appropriate way.
Administration officials say it’s important to do this so as to not inflame the Muslim world.
And then there’s the matter of the “prayers” that were said after bin Laden’s corpse was carefully washed and wrapped in accordance with sharia law:
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whoever You keep alive, keep him alive in Islam, and whoever You cause to die, cause him to die with faith. O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honor the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allah, give him a house better than his house and a family better than his family. O Allah, admit him to Paradise and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hell-fire; make his grave spacious and fill it with light. O Allah, do not deprive us of the reward and do not cause us to go astray after this. [Emphasis added]
Spare him the torment of hell-fire? Admit him to paradise? I can appreciate the administration’s desire not to “inflame the Muslim world,” but what about the families and loved ones of the innocent Americans who died at bin Laden’s hands on 9/11? What about their feelings?
If any human being ever deserved to burn for eternity in hell’s most incendiary furnace, it is this guy. I for one would have been better off not knowing what the administration did to mollify those who would have taken displeasure at the kind of send-off bin Laden so richly deserved for his unspeakable crimes while alive on this planet.
