The highly anticipated shooter was originally slated for a "Spring 2014" launch window, after much fanfare and hype following in-game trailers and updated developer diaries post E3 showed the game had definitive promise.
David "Deej" Dague, Community Manager for Bungie, took to Bungie.net in order to relay the news,
We first shared the design pillars of Destiny less than one year ago. We promised to redefine what players should expect from a Bungie game. We said we wanted to change the way people play games together. We set our bar high.
The post also reveals that the exclusive beta will "kick off in the summer of 2014, available first on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3."
Bungie is shooting for another reinvention of conventions found in shooters, much like they did with the extremely successful Halo series. While Bungie shys away from the MMO term being associated with Destiny, the descriptor is hard to shake. Players will be able to take on the game solo, or jump in cooperatively with friends in order to make the social experience on that inspires teamwork, and mutual advancement. Players will be updated when "Public Events" are in range, wherein any player in the immediate vicinity will jump in to take on a mutual enemy. These events range from assault, to defense and capture.
A loot stream system allows players to each claim their own rewards from victories, as opposed to fighting over the best items or weapons, adding to the drive for teamwork with fellow players.
Dague was sure to communicated thanks for the positive outcry for Destiny thus far stating,
The early support and enthusiasm for Destiny has been inspiring and humbling. We believe this is the right decision for our game, our studio, and our passionate community.
Destiny will also be getting some much wanted new footage tomorrow at the VGX awards, since output from Bungie has been minimal in the ways of gameplay footage in the past month or so, this is something gamers will definitely want to check out.
