Billed as more of an action shooter rather than a traditional MMO, Bungie's "Destiny" has been a source of great anticipation for console multiplayer gamers. Yesterday, Bungie and publisher Activision announced that the game will release on Sept. 9, 2014.

The sci-fi title's box art was revealed a few months ago, and although beta was on everyone's mind, a date for testing was yet to be announced. With a firm release date, players can expect the beta in the summer of 2014. As expected, the game's beta will occur on Playstation 4 and Playstation 3 before it happens on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Players can pre-order now for guaranteed access to the beta. According to the brief FAQ on the official website this may be the only way to receive a beta invite. That, at least, seems to be the case at this time.
