Destin, Florida getaway: where to stay and places to dine

Destin, Florida is an easy commute from Atlanta, Georgia and is a breathtakingly beautiful vacation destination. The drive is around five and a half hours, and is worth every minute of the drive.  In the previous article, I listed suggestions for a variety of fun and entertaining things to do. If you like the beach, watersports, hiking, or relaxing, then you'll find plenty to do in Destin.

Here are some popular options for places to stay. If you'd prefer a condo or rental house you can find some popular places on the Trip Advisor site. For hotels there are many featured on Expedia:  Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort   , Wingate by Wyndham, and Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and Spa are a few.  If you are looking for romance and a charming Inn with a graceful atmosphere, then Henderson Park Inn may be for you! This bed and breakfast Inn on the beach has Victorian inspired furnishings and a wide veranda overlooking the emerald green Gulf of Mexico.

Restaurants... this is a difficult choice, because there are so many fabulous and delicious places to dine. Below are some highly rated restaurants that will give you a variety of choices.

A.J.'s is a favorite for seafood and has lively ambiance and rocking, live music in the evenings. It's a casual spot located on the bluffs of Destin's historic inner harbor. Some specialties are shrimp, crab legs and broiled and blackened fish platters.

The Marina Cafe has contemporary dining at its best! Experience breathtaking views of the Destin Harbor through a thirty foot bar window and waterfront dining room. Marina Cafe has an extensive international wine collection that complements an eclectic menu of classic Creole, Mediterranean, Pan Asian and American cuisine.

Tommy Bahamas Tropical Cafe is a new, local favorite restaurant with a great Gulf view. McGuire's Irish Pub and Brewery gets top ratings on several sites. McGuire's is praised for a great atmosphere, delicious food and entertaining folk music. Another favorite beachside restaurant is Beach Walk Cafe. Now that I've been thinking about the restaurants, white pristine beaches and the greenblue waters of Destin, Florida....this makes me want to return there- and soon. Enjoy your travels!
