Rush Limbaugh may have a valid point about the Pope’s economic principles, but Pope Francis appears to have Limbaugh beat in the “cool” category. According to a Dec. 2 report on Today.com, the Pope’s recent admission that he had previously worked as a bouncer in a Buenos Aires nightclub has scored big kudos for the pontiff in social media. Ana Navarro @ananavarro had one of the more comical tweets about the cutting edge Pope Francis:
Thinking of getting bumper sticker printed: "My Church Leader is cooler than ur Church Leader." #LoveFrancis http://www.buzzfeed.com/ellievhall/pope-francis-reveals-he-once-worked-as-a-bouncer?bftw&s=mobile …
According to the NY Daily News, Rush Limbaugh has categorized the pope’s latest document that criticizes capitalism, Evangelii Gaudium, as “pure Marxism.” The Vatican has released some information this week paints the first pope from Latin America as a very down-to-earth and even “cool” guy. The Vatican Almoner even confirmed that Pope Francis often sneaks out in disguise at night to minister to the poor!
According to Twitter, many people love this humble, everyday type of pope. There are, however, many American conservatives who are not pleased with his association with apparently left-leaning individuals and ideals.
In this Huffington Post article, Rev. Doctor Susan Brooks Thistlewaite of Chicago Theological Seminary questions whether or not the pope is a liberation theologian.
Regardless of his politics, Pope Francis is getting attention with his less-than-papal presence in the real world.
