As reported on ESPN Deportes on Sunday, AC Milan lost 2-1 against Napoli in San Siro, Milan’s home. Milan had not lost to Napoli in San Siro in 27 years.
The goals for SSC Napoli were made by Uruguayan defender Miguel Angel Britos in the 6th minute and Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain in the 53rd.
Milan’s striker Mario Balotelli scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute. Also, Balotelli had missed a penalty in the 61st minute. After the game, Balotelli argued with the officials and was given a red card. It has been also reported that Mario Balotelli has received a three-game suspension due to the expulsion.
AC Milan dominated the whole match by outshooting and controlling the ball more than SSC Napoli. Milan had 22 shots compared to Napoli’s nine. Also, Milan dominated the ball 56% of the game.
It was obviously a frustrating game for the home team, AC Milan, that lead to a loss, especially by missing a penalty as well via Balotelli.
SSC Napoli stays on top in the Serie A table tied with AS Roma, who defeated SS Lazio 2-0 in Rome. As for AC Milan, the loss puts them in 12th place.
