It is no secret that Nick Foles had an amazing game on Sunday with the Philadelphia Eagles. He threw for seven passing touchdowns on Sunday, tying the same record that Peyton Manning hit during the first regular season game this year. People are now wondering if Foles will replace Michael Vick as starting quarterback. On November 4, ESPN reported that Foles is the Eagles starting quarterback for now. He will be taking first-team reps with the Eagles at their Tuesday practice.
Whether Nick Foles will replace Michael Vick for the remainder of the season is yet to be determined. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has declined to comment on his plans for the quarterback position once Vick returns. That will probably depend on how quickly Vick returns and the on-going performance of Foles.
In any event, the Philadelphia Eagles are doing better in the quarterback department than many other NFL teams this year. The Minnesota Vikings are struggling and cannot seem to choose which quarterback to start. The Houston Texans are now starting their backup and benching their starter. Jay Cutler is injured, as is Sam Bradford.
At the beginning of the NFL season, fantasy football team owners talked about how deep the talent was in the quarterback pool. Many drafted their quarterbacks very late because there were so many to choose from but that is no longer the case. As more and more quarterbacks sustain season-threatening and even season-ending injuries, it is getting hard to find a decent quarterback in the bunch.
Imagine the surprise of everyone when Nick Foles, who is good in his own right, comes out as Michael Vick's backup and starts hitting records. In the fantasy football world, he earned a whopping 45.64 points and is now one of the most sought after quarterbacks. If he continues to perform even close to this level in Vick's absence, it will be very hard for Chip Kelly to deny Foles that starting position.
