Desiree Williams was crowned Saturday as Miss Arlington 2013.
She will represent Arlington at the Miss Virginia Pageant. If she wins the state pageant, she will represent Virginia at the Miss America 2014 Pageant.
If she is crowned Miss America, she will become the second Miss Arlington to wear the national crown. The first was Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron.
Williams is the reigning Miss National Sweetheart 2012.
The Miss National Sweetheart pageant is open to runners-up in state Miss America pageants. It is sponsored each year by the Hoopeston Jaycees of Hoopeston, Ill.
Williams was first runner-up at the Miss Virginia 2012 pageant, which she entered as Miss Peninsula.
"Desiree is a native of Peachtree City, GA and current resident of Newport News, VA," according to the Miss Peninsula website. "She is a Hampton University alum, where she is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program. Desiree is involved in several community service projects throughout the Peninsula and Hampton Roads. Inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign, Desiree is passionate about her platform, 'Fit and Fun,' which promotes physical activity and healthy eating in children, adolescents, and young adults."
