Desigual kicks off Fashion Week with Victoria Secret model Candice Swanepoel

There was plenty of positive energy and passion on the catwalk at the Desigual Fall 2014 runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The Spanish label, which means unique or different, energized the packed Theatre at Lincoln Center in New York City on Thursday.

Opening the show was Victoria Secret model Candice Swanepoel, strutting down the runway in a micro mini satin dress bursting with flowers and polka dots. The kaleidoscope of colors included violet, navy, hunter green, burgundy and gold. The heavily geometric and floral collection was brimming with lots of form fitting mini dresses, flowing maxi dresses reminiscent of the 1970s, and plenty of bold black and white graphic dresses and coats.

Wearing one of those fab coats was Karolina Kukova, who we snapped backstage. Other fans attending the show included Jill Zarin, Siva Kaneswaran, and Jackie Cruz and Vicky Jeudy of “Orange is the New Black.”

I caught up with head of Desigual, Manel Jadraque backstage and asked about their design philosophy. “We are all about enduring optimism and being positive. We want women to feel chic, fun, genuine and happy wearing our clothes.”

True to the Desigual motto, when “Le Vida Es Chula, love is always in the air” was definitely apparent throughout the show as the fab and frisky models vogued it up for the crowds with air kisses, waves and genuine smiles. Check out my slideshow if you don’t believe me!
