IFDA NEW YORK CHAPTER WITH NYC&G ANNOUNCE DESIGNERS FOR 2nd ANNUAL CHAIR CHARITY AUCTION, TAKE A SEAT

New York, NY, May 12, 2014 – The New York Chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA NY), along with media sponsor New York Cottages and Gardens magazine (NYC&G), announces chair designers for its second annual Take A Seat charity auction and gala taking place Wednesday, May 14 from 7pm – 9pm at Room&Board, 105 Wooster Street, NY 10012.

28 leading designers and artisans have been invited to create one-of-a-kind chairs to be auctioned off to benefit Habitat for Humanity NY and chapter professional development. Participants include Vanessa DeLeone, interior designer as seen on NBC America Dream Builders and HGTV’s Generation Renovation and Bang for your Buck; Betsey Johnson, celebrated fashion and home designer; Justin Shaulis, host of HGTV Home Rules; Michael Tavano, star of the hit BBC television series, House of the Year and Karim Rashid, whose award-winning designs include luxury goods for Christofle, Veuvre Clicquot, Umbra and 3M with interiors such as the famed Morimoto Restaurant in Philadelphia and Semiramus hotel in Athens.

Libby Langdon, interior designer and makeover TV personality from shows including NYC Open House, The Rachael Ray Show and NBC’s Daykeover with Libby Langdon, will act as Master of Ceremonies at the Take A Seat auction and gala. Bidding will be lead by professional auctioneer Harrie E. Copeland, III. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served throughout the evening, including signature drink, “Take A Cab.”

The designers’ chairs will be displayed in the windows and throughout Room&Board from May 9 – 14, the week of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, ICFF and during NYCxDesign. The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge and the auction gala will be a ticketed event.

The first Take A Seat held in May 2013 was an international design exhibition and auction curated by IFDA New York, San Diego and Osaka, Japan chapters raising more than $16,000 for Tsunami and Hurricane Sandy relief as well as chapter professional development. This year, six chapters are producing IFDA Take A Seat™ chair exhibits and events: New York, this month, with chapters in Philadelphia, Boca Raton, Scottsdale, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco following suit in October. Proceeds will benefit the overall IFDA TAS initiative called Helping Heroes at Home, raising funds and awareness for charities including Habitat for Humanity, Wheelchair Foundation and Project Home.
