Bk fashion weekend is a platform that has launched the careers of many emerging designers. Designer Deron Shield edgy urban punk Baddazz clothing line just ripped the runway over the weekend at Bk fashion weekend. I caught up with designer Deron Shields for a interview here's what he had to say.
Tammy B.: Tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from? What's your educational background? What are your general professional and non-professional interests?
Deron Shields: I am Deron Shields From Baltimore Md. I have a degree in apparel design. I love partying and playing dress up!! I love my work as an artist professionally. I am unhappy doing anything but creating stuff. :)
Tammy B. What does BK fashion weekend mean to you?
Deron Shields: Bk Fashion Weekend means the world to me!! It means support from my environment and the movement that Brooklyn Artists has.
TB: How would you define your city's fashion?
Deron Shields: Well my hometown city fashion is very urban. My current new city Brooklyn fashion is very eclectic! It's acceptable to do anything as long as it makes you feel comfortable :)
TB: When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
Deron Shields: I realized I was becoming a fashion designer at age 12 when I was offered a record deal and my grandmother said no!! So I saw an interview on news at age 12 who said his goal was to "dress the world" so I wanted to do the same so I started to sew .
TB: What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
Deron Shields: I made a skirt for my best friend for Christmas :)
TB: Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of clothing.
Deron Shields: I think a lot!!! Stare into space a lot!! I have an ignoramus Imagination.
TB: What are some of your accomplishments as a designer?
Deron Shields: Some of my personal accomplishments has to be selling my clothes all over the USA VIA http://baddazzclothing.bigcartel.com/ and becoming a sewing Expert on Lifetimes Hit TV Show 24JourCatwalk http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/24-hour-catwalk/sewers where I showed other Designers how to make and construct clothes and be paid extremely well for it!!:) as well as being on MTV , the insider, and making costumes for music videos and fashion shoots , working for Zac Posen ,Cynthia Rowley, Rachel Roy, and other designer in the production rooms! :) But now it’s my time!!! I've learned enough and building my own name and brand!
TB: Who are some of your favorite designers?
Deron Shields: My favorite designers now Rick Owens, Betsey Johnson, Vivian Westwood, John Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, Elsa Schiaparelli

TB: What do you believe makes a quality article of clothing?
Deron Shields: Fabric, fit and construction :)
TB: Do you consider yourself an artist?
Deron Shields: Yeas I am an artist!! Who just happens to love clothes!! And design and sew them. I just like being a leader and setting trends that can inspire others :) I'm not in this to become American best Fashion Designer! Just want to design for the cool people like me and hopefully convince the other people :)
TB: What matters to you most as a fashion designer?
Deron Shields: What matters to me most as a designer is that people actually feel me without speaking! And it always works!!! Lol! I love the response I get from all the baddazzes.
TB: What's your favorite part about conceptualizing a design?
Deron Shields: Seeing it come together :) it makes me cry sometimes. How my thoughts come true!!! It like my life all the things I have dreamed are coming true and it's so weird but I love it.
TB: What advice do you have for aspiring fashion designers?
Deron Shields: Do what you love no matter what other people do!!! Never get caught up in other designer’s imagination!
TB: What do you like best about designing clothes?
Deron Shields: I love seeing designs come to life!! And making people have a feeling that makes them feel good!!
TB: What do you dislike about designing clothes?
Deron Shields: The sewing!! I hate sewing!!! Lol. It's such a patience job!! And I'm impulsive!! Lol
TB: How would you define your personal style?
Deron Shields: My personal style is fun and funky!! It's so imperfect because I personally wear women's, mens and kids clothes! So people always want know how I get my style but I buy inspiring things everywhere I go!! So it’s just become something created by me!! Ultimately :)
TB: How would you define the style your line exemplifies?
Deron Shields: My brand BaddAzz Clothing is a punk Rock inspired line of cool clothes. It's about being BaddAzz as in cool and not Bad. This brand represents being comfortable and cool (BaddAzz) at the same Damn Time! Lol so it's cool pieces.
TB: What are some of your fashion goals?
Deron Shields: My fashion goals remain the same!! To "Dress the world" I want to make each and every person baddazz even If it a Hat!!
TB: Where do you get your inspiration?
Deron Shields: I get my inspiration from things I see in my life!! I get inspired easily!
TB: What other experience do you have in the fashion industry (stylist, retail, marketing, etc.)?
Deron Shields: I am a fashion editor at Vestal Magazine www. Vestalmag.com and I have done styling for Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Elle, Zink, Vestal, Genlux magazine, Vibe, etc
TB: What are your favorite patterns [prints] to work with and why?
Deron Shields: I love stripes!!! It just so many ways to be cool in stripes!! :)
