I’ve always been a fan of designer Amanda deLeon. Her attention to detail, impeccable craftsmanship and her unique aesthetic is like no other. This past October I had the chance to work with Amanda deLeon for The Junior Committee of the Women's Guild of the New Orleans Opera; where I got to know the person behind the designs. One would think that deLeon would have a mystic persona, somewhat like her “LaNouvelle-Orleans” fall/winter ’14 collection. But on the contrary, she’s warm, friendly, and a girl on a mission to present her collection at New York Fashion Week.
To be invited to show at New York Fashion Week is a tremendous honor and a huge opportunity. This event will officially mark the designer’s debut in the world’s fashion capital. “The thought of finally showing at NYFW is both exhilarating and terrifying. This is something that I have daydreamed about for quite some time, and I am still struggling to wrap my head around this giant leap that I am about to take....It’s amazing what can happen when you just believe in yourself and dive in face first;” said deLeon.
DeLeon experiences and reflections unfold in her collections. Her creativity stems from a personal process and her designs tell an intimate story. Interestingly, deLeon says she takes her darkest thoughts with the goal of turning them into something beautiful. The premise behind her work is to make an uneasy subject more palatable. Take a look at the slideshow to see her amazing collection presented at the Opera Guild’s event “Masquerade: Once Bitten”.
Receiving the invitation [to show at NYFW] is a great achievement. However, deLeon needs the assistance of the New Orleans fashion community in bringing this dream to fruition. A donation to her Kickstarter Campaign (there are several options to choose from) can help her quest of showcasing in February at New York Fashion Week.
