In a classroom full of 14 and 15 year old freshmen and sophomores at St. Joseph-Ogden High School in St. Joseph, Ill, were subjected to a rather odd class assignment. They were given ten people and they had to decide which 6 would live and which 4 would die. Ten people needed kidney dialysis but they only had facilities for six. They were given information about each one and they had to decide which ones were expendable and which were necessary.
It sounds like desensitivity training to me. And in likelihood, it's connected into the common core curruculum. Common core is the device the left uses to indoctrinate our youth to make the unthinkable and fundamentally transform it into normal everyday thinking.
Despite the denials, the derision, and the mockery about Obamacare Death panels, they do exist in the form of the IPAB board, which by definitions of their responsibility and the mandate, must choose who lives and who dies. Even many democrats are becoming worried about the IPAB board and what they have the power to do.
If you don't believe that, you need look no further than the four men selected by Barack Obama to advise him on healthcare. The first is Ezekiel Emanual, Rahm's brother, who is a doctor. Without getting too involved, two quotes tells you all you need to know about the man.
Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath too seriously, “as an imperative to do everything for the patient regardless of the cost or effects on others” (Journal of the American Medical Association, June 18, 2008).
“Vague promises of savings from cutting waste, enhancing prevention and wellness, installing electronic medical records and improving quality are merely ‘lipstick’ cost control, more for show and public relations than for true change,” he wrote last year (Health Affairs Feb. 27, 2008).
Emanuel's official titles are health-policy adviser at the Office of Management and Budget and a member of Federal Council on Comparative Effectiveness Research.
And just how does he justify killing granny?
“Unlike allocation by sex or race, allocation by age is not invidious discrimination; every person lives through different life stages rather than being a single age. Even if 25 year-olds receive priority over 65 year olds, everyone who is 65 years now was previously 25 years”
The second appointee to Obama's death panel is Dr. David Blumenthal. Blumenthal is a big believer in rationing. Blumenthal concedes that healthcare price controls like those introduced bu IPAB, is “associated with longer waits” and “reduced availability of new and expensive treatments and devices” Obama and the democrats denounced republicans who make exactly the same point.
Blumenthal maintains that is debatable whether timely care is worth the cost. Doctors will tell you that the sooner you get treatment, the better your chances of survival are. But then again so can the local paperboy, the waitress at your favorite diner, your bartender and even your crazy Uncle Joe who considers pork rinds and light beer to be diet foods.
The third man is John Holdren, who Obama tapped as his science czar. Holdren once wrote a book that says that someday a panel could order mandatory abortions and sterilization of poor women. This would tend to make you believe that only the rich and the educated should be allowed to breed for procreation purposes.
Last but not least is Donald Berwick, who until the end of 2011, was Obama's head of Social Security and Medicare. Berwick, who is loving called Dr Death in the UK for his work with the NIH in the UK, That is the healthcare program, where you can be denied treatment for your age, weight, or smoking.
So, how do I find the IPAB board to be the death panel? After all they are given very few options and congress can easily overturn their decisions. The answer is quite simple. You have a procedure that saves many lives but the cost is high.
Let's say the procedure coasts the hospital $2,000 to administer. The IPAB board which sets reimbursement rates decides they will pay only $1,000 for the procedure. That treatment will never see the light of day again.
Now back to our classroom assignment. One student decided that the ex-convict, a prostitute, college student and a disabled person would die and the doctor, lawyer, housewife, teacher, cop and Lutheran minister would live. By the time this student graduates, playing God will seem natural to him or her.
