Deron Williams trade rumors surfaced on Friday (Jan. 10). The Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets are at the center of these Deron Williams trade rumors, with the tams discussing how a deal could possibly be constructed. According to a report from CBS Sports, the pieces that would exchange hands were even discussed between the front offices of each franchise.
As part of the deal, the Rockets would have dealt Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin to the Nets for Williams. It appears that the talks ended up fizzling and with the recent news of how bad the ankles of the Nets' point guard have become, it may never get off the ground again. On paper, it does seem like a deal that might have worked out for both teams, even if Fans of the Nets might have been frustrated by the lowered value of their superstar point guard.
The report also noted that the agent for Omer Asik is still trying hard to get the Houston Rockets to part ways with him. It's tough for the team to move him, though, because he is due $15 million next season in an odd contract that the team offered to get him away from the Chicago Bulls. The Brooklyn Nets might have been the perfect team to absorb that contract, which could be one of the reasons the Deron Williams trade rumors came up in the first place.
Heading into the games on Friday night, the Rockets are 23-13 and currently fifth place in the Western Conference. The Nets have improved to 14-21 with a four game winning streak and have moved into eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
