Derek's Restaurant: Fine dining and an extensive wine list on the Manayunk strip

See also

Home to perhaps one of the best seared sea scallop dishes I've ever had, Derek's in Manayunk is an upscale dining establishment with a fantastic Monday-Friday happy hour.

Derek's is located on the west end of Main Street, just across the street from the Starbucks, making it both accessible and easy-to-spot. Their specialty cocktail list is extensive, and Derek's features over 150 selections of wine, many at affordable prices. As a bonus, the restaurant allows for patrons to even bring their own bottles of wine if they so choose, but visitors should bear in mind that on Friday and Saturday evenings, there is a $10 per bottle corckage fee.

The downstairs bar area of Derek's is posh, with traditional bar seating and cocktail tables on one end, and large, louge-style upholstered chair seating on the other. During the weekdays, this is an excellent place to grab lunch and a quick sip, and during the weekends and evenings, it's an atmosheric spot to enjoy with good company. The dining areas are nice and the seating is comfortable, although the upstairs dining area can be very drafty in the winter months, so dress appropriately. The upstairs bar, affectionately referred to as the "sky bar," has a very conversational mood about it, which compliments the overall theme of the restaurant quite nicely.

Derek's specials begin with a 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. happy hour, Monday-Friday in the bar area. During happy hour, visitors can enjoy $3 draft beer, $4 select glasses of wine, and a $5 classic cocktail of the day. The nighttime happy hour runs Monday-Thursday, from 10 p.m.-12 a.m., and includes all drinks at half price. What's more, if those specials aren't enough to entice, Derek's features daily specials such as Monday's Margarita and Mojito Madness, and Martini Thursdays.

As a fine dining location which tries to encourage a fun atmosphere, while at the same time maintaining a high level of quality and dignity, Derek's is a winner. Check them out online at dereksrestaurant.com, on Facebook, or on Twitter @dereksmanayunk.
