Derek Rang has been announced as the new head football coach at Dresden.
Rang, 29 replaces Keith Hodge who resigned and is now the head football coach Murray County (KY).
"I'm very excited to get started at Dresden, to hit the ground running and get to know the kids and get into the community and embrace them as well," Rang said.
Rang will indeed hit the ground running as he will move to Dresden soon and will run spring practice in early May.
"I'm in a good situation that I can get started pretty soon and we can have spring practice," Rang said. "Dresden has a good program going and they have had success and I want to build on that."
Dresden has high expectations for 2014 as they were ranked No. 6 in Examiner.com's Class 1A Spring Top 10 released last month.
Hodge was 18-6 in his two years at Dresden is coming off a 7-4 season.
Rang was the head coach at Powell in 2012 and led the Panthers to a 12-2 record and a berth in the Class 5A Semifinals.
He spent last year as the wide receivers coach on Ken Sparks staff at Carson Newman.
Rang broke into coaching in 2007 as he coached at Anderson County for two seasons before moving on as the defensive coordinator at South Doyle in 2009.
He then moved over to be the defensive coordinator at Knoxville West and hit defenses forced 81 turnovers in those two seasons as the a Rebels made back to back 5A Semifinals.
Rang played on three 4A title teams at Maryville from 2000-02.
