One person who is looking forward to facing Julianne Hough in the judges' panel in the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars" is her brother Derek Hough. On Thursday, August 21, Julianne announced on "Good Morning America" that she will be joining Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli as a judge on season 19 of the dance competition. After the official confirmation, Derek went on Twitter to let everyone know exactly how he feels about having his sister judge him.
"My toughest critic and judge is actually gonna be a judge on DWTS. Uh oh!!! Congrats Jules !! Gonna be a fun and interesting season," he tweeted. Clearly, Derek isn't worried that his sibling relationship will be damaged by any harsh judging. Derek and Julianne, who have been nothing but supportive of each other through the years, likely talked about the possibility of her being a judge and came to the conclusion that she would be able to be impartial and he would be able to take any criticism from her like a professional.
Not surprisingly, Derek Hough's fans are supportive of his sister's big new role. The reactions to Derek's tweet were mostly positive, with many people expressing their excitement over seeing Julianne as a judge. However, one person did question whether having the sister of one of the pro dancers be a judge presents a conflict of interest.
Reactions elsewhere to the announcement have been much more negative. When Carrie Ann asked her fans what they thought of the addition, most of the responses were critical of Julianne. Several people wrote that they won't watch the show anymore. Others wrote that if any new judge had to be brought in, it should have been Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy has publicly stated that he would love to be a judge on "Dancing with the Stars." Perhaps he can still serve as a guest judge, sitting next to Julianne Hough, in a few episodes?
